Tree Stand

Registration Closed - Learn a bird’s mouth joint to make a Christmas tree stand or a planter. By cutting a series of angles that will fit together a strong, but hollow vessel is formed. Appropriate for experienced woodworkers, but no previous woodworking experience is required

Varnishing

Join our four-week varnishing class and master the art of brightwork! This class is Fun, interactive, and packed with valuable skills.

Brightwork

Get a first-hand introduction to the basics of bright finishing.  Learn proper techniques to address problem areas, how to apply varnish, and/or paint prepared surfaces.

Build Your Own Toboggan

Join us at the shop to make your own family heirloom wooden toboggan out of beautiful ash or other selected hardwoods. 

Make-Your-Own-Canoe-Paddle

Build your own laminated paddle. Learn a combination of modern and traditional woodworking skills, including the use of the drawknife, spokeshave and scraper. Learn to apply epoxy and polyurethane glues.

Shop Talk Nights

A wintertime lecture series offered at the Boatworks shop.

Build your own Echo Bay Dory Skiff

Learn boatbuilding skills while building your own 12’ Echo Bay Dory Skiff. Start with precision-cut hull components for the rowing version of the boat and leave with a skiff ready to prepare for painting and your first row. Can be converted to sail with further work!

Carve your own Nameboard

Change the textLearn the basic skills necessary to carve a personalized nameboard.  Each participant takes home their own carving.and make it your own. Click here to begin editing.

Saturdays in the Shop

Hands-on woodcraft projects for children and an adult offered periodically at the Boatworks’ shop on Saturday mornings.

Build your own Compass Outboard Skiff

A great way to introduce youth to building, owning, and maintaining their first boat. On the water, she will bring a lot of joy to the family. The 10’ Compass Skiff is stable, roomy, and fun.

Half-Hull Model Making

Treat yourself to an introduction to the fundamentals of boat design and then create your own beautiful half-hull model to hang on your wall for years to come.

Women’s Woodworking

Learn the basics of woodworking while safely learning how to use both power and hand tools.  Learn to read plans, create a cut list, mill the wood, and laminate and fine tune their piece.  Each participant will take home their own handmade mallet and new confidence.
